Dopamine & Boudoir
One of the most gratifying things to witness as an empowerment photographer is seeing how good people feel doing something out of the ordinary for themselves…..a boudoir. These types of experiences don't happen all the time for the average human. They are just normal in MY WORLD and it's nice to really sit back and realize how my clients get over their nerves and feel so much joy from their photo experience.
Here comes the nerdy side of me….I love the brain. Do you know that everyone at a boudoir session feels lit up and empowered because of the dopamine released? Dopamine is the “feel good” chemical messenger in the brain responsible for allowing you to feel pleasure, satisfaction and motivation. Everyone feels amazing after their shoot because they’ve finally achieved something they’ve been meaning to do…..see their unique beauty, see the versions of themselves that they’ve been hiding, and finally feeling confident! Most importantly it brings you closer to loving yourself and the glorious body you live in.
The Boudoir Experience helps us release dopamine by:
Overcoming fears (fears of seeing ourselves, uncomfortable feelings of doing something out of your comfort zone, the fear of the unknown)
Moving your body through poses (a little dancing, feeling like a model, oddly enjoying the spotlight for a bit)
Laughing through the process (because we don’t always have the opportunity to feel liberated like this, and pose like goddesses all the time as busy humans)
Seeing yourself as gorgeous and powerful and FEELING into it (you get to see photos of yourself that remind you of this feeling, and sit with this for as long as you'd like)
These are just a few reasons why people feel so uplifted for long after their photo session, and why their confidence soars. When we allow ourselves to EXPERIENCE, our minds and bodies REMEMBER. It’s the beginning or the continuation of reframing our minds and creating neural pathways of self love and acceptance. So every time you look back at your photo, dopamine is released and you can “feel good” again.
Everyone should take the time to see and feel what gorgeous beings you are no matter if you've had a boudoir shoot or not. I believe that EVERYBODY deserves to have great photos of themselves. I encourage you all to get in front of the camera more while you make memories that fill you with joy!
